Butterfly Wings - Chapter 10
Rainbow Dash watched as her friends walked away from the house, then looked up to where Fluttershy disappeard.
"I'd leave her alone if I were you..." Discord muttered beside her.
"But I can't just leave her!" Rainbow insisted, giving Discord a look of shock. "She's my friend."
Discord shrugged. "Whatever. Do what you will."
Rainbow shook her head slowly, then quickly flew up to Fluttershy's door. She could hear things violently cluttering around in the kitchen. Cupboard doors swing open, and slamming shut, pots and pans falling over the floor, and the distinct sound of crying. She carefully entered, and glanced around wearily. "Hey." She called. "Shy?"
"GO AWAY!" The soft voice sounded in a yell.
"Fluttershy..." Rainbow followed the voice, which led her into the kitchen.
"What do you want?" Fluttershy asked sharply. At that moment, the kettle began to whistle. Fluttershy turned it off, and poured the boiled water into two mugs. She stirred them both, and shoved one at Rainbow.
"Is this... Coffee?" Rainbow asked in confusion, as she stared at the hot liquid. "Fluttershy... You never drink coffee."
"Doesn't mean I can't start." Came the sharp reply.
"Fluttershy. This isn't like you." Rainbow placed her mug on the bench to the side, and walked over to stand beside Fluttershy. "You really do love him, huh." She placed a hoof on her shoulder, which was quickly flung off.
"DON'T TOUCH ME!" Fluttershy threw the boiling hot coffee onto Rainbow, then dropped the mug on the ground.
Rainbow screamed as the hot liquid burnt her skin.
Fluttershy was silent for a moment, then gasped as she realized what she had just done. "Oh my goodness... I'm so sorry! Let me help you!" She wrapped her wing over Rainbow, and began to herd her toward the sink, where she could use the cold water to cool her down.
"No! You've done enough!" Rainbow flew into the air, still in agony after having the coffee thrown on her. "I'll be fine!" She quickly flew out of the window, and threw herself into the icy stream, immdiately relieved from her pain.
Discord lazily turned his head towards Rainbow, and sighed. "Told you so." He froze, and his ears pricked as he heard Fluttershy speak.
"R-Rainbow... I'm so sorry..." She began to sob.
Rainbow Dash jumped out of the water, and shook herself off, the coffee burns beginning to sting again. "It's-" She started, angrily, then sighed. "It's fine." She pulled Fluttershy into a hug, and let her sob into her shoulder, although the salt tears stung her burns.
Fluttershy sniffed, and gingerly pulled away. "You should... You should probably get some ice onto that." She suggested somberly.
"I will." Rainbow promised. "I'll see you again later." She turned to walk away, and nodded to Discord, before trotting down the path, back to Ponyville's main streets.
"Y-yeah... Bye.." Fluttershy was out of Rainbow's earshot by now. She glanced at Discord, then turned back to her house.
"Fluttershy, wait." Discord lifted his head. To his surprise, Fluttershy halted, and slowly looked behind her.
"What?" She asked sadly. "What is it?"
"Come here." He patted the ground beside him.
Fluttershy looked at the ground, then at Discord. Reluctantly, she walked back to him, and sat beside him, simply gazing at him.
"I'm uh... I'm really sorry about what I said earlier." He began, a little awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck with a paw.
Fluttershy looked away, her eyes resting on the ground. "Don't be..." She shook her head slowly. "I was a fool to think that you and I would ever work, anyway..."
"Now don't be like that." He said. He placed a claw under Fluttershy's chin, and gently turned her head towards him, so he could look her in the eye. "I, miss Fluttershy, was a fool to think that you and I couldn't work."
"W-what do you mean..?" Fluttershy looked Discord in the eye, confused.
Discord smiled a little at her, resting his claw back on the ground, with a knowing in his eye.
Fluttershy's eyes widened, as the realization of what Discord was thinking hit her. "B-but... What would the others think? A nurse dating her patient. A pony and a-"
"Fluttershy, dear." Discord cut her off. "Who cares what others think?"
Fluttershy gave a skeptical look, as she thought.
"What about that beaver you found just last week, cuddling with that blasted rabbit of yours? Did you care?" Discord questioned.
"W-well... No. But that's-"
"Different?" Discord raised a brow, as he shuffled around a little, to get more comfortable.
Fluttershy's eyes fell to the ground.
"How so?" Discord raised one of his white brows, and rolled his paw in a motion that indicated to continue.
Fluttershy slowly shook her head. "I-it... Doesn't matter..."
Discord let out a small chuckle. "Did you care?"
"Then why would they care, hrmm?" He questioned carefully.
Fluttershy looked up at him, with her round, blue eyes. "I... You're... You're right!" Her eyes stretched wide. "Oh, Discord!" She jumped up, and flung her hooves around Discord's neck, her wings fluttering happily.
"F-Fluttershy!" Discord rasped in pain.
"O-oh my!" Fluttershy quickly pulled away, and looked wide-eyed at Discord, worried. "I'm so sorry!"
"It's..." Discord's face was screwed up with pain. "It's okay." He bent around awkwardly, giving a long sigh of relief once he felt the pain ebb. He then slowly lifted a paw, and pulled Fluttershy into a gentle hug, and smiled a little as he felt her delecate hooves wrap around him. "eh... Fluttershy...?"
"Can you... Look me at me for a second..?" He asked meekly.
Fluttershy didn't answer, and after a short while, she carefully pulled out of the hug, and looked Discord in the eye, before squeaking in surprise as she felt his lips press against hers. She was tense for a few seconds, before melting like honey, and happily returning the kiss. The tooth, you ask? Well... She didn't care in the slightest.
